Auto Tariffs in Spokane WA

Effective April 3rd, a 25% auto tariff will be applied to all new vehicles imported into the U.S.  Here’s what you need to know.

An auto tariff is a tax that is charged on vehicles and parts that are imported into the U.S.

The tariffs imposed on April 3rd are a 25% levy on imported vehicles, including cars, trucks and SUVs.  They tax is also applied to auto parts like engines, tires and spark plugs.   

Are All Nissan Vehicles at the Dealership Affected?

About 50% of our new Nissans are built in the U.S.  Any imported Nissan vehicles that were already in the U.S. before April 2nd will not be affected.  Also, any U.S.-built vehicles in stock before May 1st will not be subject to these tariffs.  Keep in mind that many parts may have been imported and will be subject to the 25% tariff.

How Will the Tariffs Affect Customers?

We sell new vehicles that are produced in Japan, Mexico and Cadada and these will be impacted.  This will cause a rise in the cost of Nissan vehicles.  Even the vehicles assembled in the U.S. may see price increases because of the higher cost of imported parts. 

We also sell used vehicles at Wendle Nissan.  With the raised prices of new cars, the used market may also see a rise in prices.

What Should Customers Do Now?

If you were considering the purchase of new vehicle, now is the time to buy to avoid potential price hikes.  Future imported vehicles may face a 25% price increase.  For instance, a vehicle that cost $30,000 could rise by $7,500 or more.
